Vigorous plants produce an abundance of large green pods filled with 5 or 6 large, white, flat beans. Heirloom, introduced in 1883. TREATED SEED (fungicide treated to prevent seed from rotting before they sprout)
When and Where to Plant- Select a sunny location and plant in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth over with a rake. Firm soil over seed and keep soil moist.
Care and Harvest- Grows best in a soil with a pH between 6 and 7, and just a light application of garden fertilizer. Water at ground level to reduce the probability of disease. For green shell stage, pick beans when the seeds have formed and the pod is firm when squeezed. For dried beans, allow the pods to dry on the stalk before picking.
